Nightmare on 13th

Nighmare on 13th

Located just a block from the Ballpark TRAX station, riders will find a haunt recognized as one of America’s scariest attractions. Nightmare on 13th, located at 300 West 1300 South, is Utah’s longest running haunted house.

The attraction is open through Nov. 5, from 7-10 p.m. Mon. through Thurs., 7 p.m. – midnight on Fri. and Sat., and closed Sundays. During October, Nightmare on 13th is expected to scare over 65,000 people.

True to it’s name, Nightmare on 13th continues to feature some of the scariest Hollywood creations – from Freddy to the more recent Pirates of the Caribbean. The haunt also features a variety of original scares.

The horror begins in Nightmare Theater, a large waiting room where visitors are taunted by Freddy and horror films flash across the large screens. Beyond the theater, guests navigate the 36,000 square-ft. warehouse running from zombies, vampires and the bone chilling pitch black room. Simply going through the space can take an hour or more.

UTA to Debut Public Art in Utah County

Utah County Mural

Transit riders coming and going from the FrontRunner park-and-ride lot near Thanksgiving Point in Lehi and the bus shelter in front of Orem’s City Hall will be treated to a nice pop of color thanks to some local artists.

The mural in Lehi entitled “Connections,” was developed by students at the Lehi Arts Center under the direction of teacher Linnie Brown. The students involved in the project – Arissa B., Kylie B., Danielle G., Acacia G., Colin J., JJ M., Cole N., Skyler P., Savannah S., Abigail W.  – range in age from seven to 11 years old.

Images depicted in the artwork include the IM Flash building, Thanksgiving Point, Lehi Roller Mills, Lehi Legacy Center, along with other community attractions and a variety of houses.

The second mural is located on State Street in Orem in front fo City Hall.

The piece was created by local stained glass artist Jeanne Gromm. Jeanne enjoys finding the hidden beauty and has created a piece to guide viewers to some of Utah County’s most treasured spots.

The addition of these two pieces bring the total number of murals located in bus shelters to 11. Each year, UTA works to involve youth groups, local artists, seniors and community groups in the design and execution of bus shelter mural projects. For more information on participating, please visit UTA’s Art in Transit information page.

UTA will hold an unveiling ceremony to debut the two pieces on Monday, October 17 at 3:30 p.m. The event will be held at the Lehi park and ride, located at 3101 North Ashton Blvd.

Get spooked at the Castle of Chaos

Castle of Chaos

Utah’s haunted houses have begun their seasonal reign of terror and we are excited to be highlighting locations near some of our favorite transit stops.

We start with Castle of Chaos.

The Castle of Chaos, one of Utah’s longest running haunts, opened in 2001. After a decade of scaring Utah’s most daring residents, the operation has grown to three locations.

The original Castle of Chaos is located at 120 West 3300 South in Salt Lake City, a short walk from the 3300 S TRAX station. Alternatively, riders can catch the Route 33 bus, which also stops nearby.

Our resident scare expert and Halloween aficionado, Graphic Designer Blair Lewis went to meet with owner James Bernard at the original Castle of Chaos location.

“It’s obvious upon arrival that running a haunted house is about more than being scary,” Lewis said. “With the crazy weather we’ve had the staff’s been busy draining the lake that developed in the back parking lot before the nights show began.”

The employees at Castle of Chaos are a dedicated bunch – they have to be with the crazy hours they are maintaining these days. “I was impressed with the excitement the employees have about their place,” Lewis said. “And just a tip. If the employees ask if you want to continue on to the extreme scare say yes!”

Perhaps if you’re really daring you might choose to try the organization’s second location Four Levels of Fear, located on Redwood Road just south of 5400 South, easily accessible by bus routes 217 and 218.

Finally, for our Weber Country riders, the organization has opened a third location – The Carnival of Chaos. This last location is located on 1100 West Riverdale Road in Ogden and can be accessed from Route 472.

We are thrilled to let you know James Bernard has provided two sets of tickets for us to giveaway – one set for the Castle of Chaos and one set for Four Levels of Fear.

To enter to win this giveaway, please leave a comment letting us know where the scariest place you’ve visited on transit by Thursday, October 13 at midnight.
